Meet the Director, Teachers and Staff

Our teachers are passionate about music and the development of children and have all successfully completed the Music Together® Teacher Training Workshop developed by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, New Jersey. They have been carefully selected and have spent at least one semester as an apprentice in classes led by an experienced teacher. We are confident in our teachers' abilities and take pride in the fact that each one brings his/her own musical personality to our classes. We encourage you to meet them all!

Catherine, our center director, discovered Music Together as a new mom living in Brooklyn, NY and has been hooked ever since! Catherine is a West Hartford native and has an extensive music background. She is an accomplished cellist with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music. The Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ has awarded Catherine Music Together Certification Level I status for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. In addition to performing and teaching music, she has worked to expand opportunities for artists and musicians as a member of the program department at Chamber Music America and as a development consultant for David Bury & Associates in New York City.  Her commitment to forming meaningful connections through music has led her to such experiences as an 8-week residency in rural Kentucky as a member of the Florestan String Quartet where she performed educational programs for more than 17,000 school students.  It has been Catherine's lifelong dream to be immersed in music in ways that promote community and understanding among people of different ages and backgrounds, and has found that very dream right here with Music Together. Catherine is a proud mama to two beautiful, musical daughters, Ella and Chloe, and lives in West Hartford.

photo Lexi Wickman

Lexi began her Music Together journey years ago when she joyfully participated in many semesters as a caregiver. She fell in love with the program and has been an active member of the community ever since. A fun, friendly and instantly loveable person, children and parents alike are drawn to Lexi. She sings her way through her days and has even sung opera and doowop! A native of Canton CT, Lexi attended the Hartford Academy of the Arts during high school for creative writing and singing and holds an Associate degree at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She recently earned a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University and her areas of study plus work with children over the past decade through daycare and full-time nanny positions have tied together beautifully with her engagement with Music Together teaching. Lexi, her son Kylan and his Daddy live in Newington with their cat and dog. Lexi loves to travel, read, and spend time relaxing at home.

Sarah's life began with music. Her family tells her she would often start her day by singing in her crib. She holds both a Bachelor of Music in violin and a Master of Music in voice from Boston University. Sarah has been teaching Music Together since 2015 and has achieved Certification Level I status for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. As a performer, Sarah has been seen on opera and concert stages across the United States. In addition to performing, she maintains a private voice studio in Tariffville and also teaches voice lessons at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor. She was previously a member of the music faculty at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. Sarah strongly believes that music-making and movement are essential to life! She loves making music and witnessing the development of her students, big and small. Most of all, she is thrilled to see the pure joy music brings to everyone it touches.

photo Agi Vojtko

Agi, a native of Hungary, is a classically trained singer and mother of two daughters, Mira and Olivia. Her formal musical adventures started with the piano at age 5. Later she began singing in choirs then studying voice and opera. She came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar and received master's and doctoral degrees in Voice from the University of Texas at Austin. Agi fell in love with the Music Together program during her graduate school years and, after completing the training, taught several years in Austin and later in Dallas. Besides performing and teaching Music Together and private voice lessons, Agi enjoys playing and singing with her daughters. They constantly remind her that music-making is a spontaneous activity we do every day, and everything is more fun if there is music involved!

Kristen was born in Hartford, CT and was raised a short distance away in Rocky Hill. Music and her love of the arts was instilled in her from a very young age, most notably falling in love with live performance at age 5 while attending the Peter, Paul, & Mary concert at the Bushnell. Since, music has been a driving force in her life, whether dancing like no one is watching or attending concerts and music festivals with her husband and son.

Kristen is a graduate of UMASS Fitchburg. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications Media with a concentration in Photography. Her senior internship brought her to Boston where she stayed for the next 18 years. Her professional experience includes senior print production manager roles for some of Boston’s premier advertising firms. After meeting her husband, also a CT native, Kristen moved back home where she was responsible for executing event planning for the Bushnell Performing Arts Center development team. Kristen also passionately channels her inner creative self as a freelance graphic designer.

Kristen’s greatest accomplishment, however, is becoming a mother to her son who has been enrolled in Music Together since he was an infant. Now at age 6, he is enrolled in Rhythm Kids and is starting formal piano lessons this Summer. She takes great pride and is thrilled to see his love for music blossom and take new shapes with each passing day. For Christmas, the top of her son’s list to Santa is invariably tickets to live shows. Additionally, one of her family’s favorite routines is "rocking out," performing as their own band "Fergus & the DeeTones," where they all play guitar, drums, and sing! Luckily, the neighbors are very forgiving!
